Birds use the filament in cigarette filters to construct nests. The nicotine poisons the eggs and they usually don't hatch. If they do hatch, the babies die. Poison is a painful way to die. We used to have the Migratory Bird Act of 1918 but as of recently birds are in more serious danger than usual.
